The UPMC Stroke Institute was formed in 1995 as a subspecialty within the Department of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh.  The primary practice setting exists in a 760 bed academic medical center.  In 2006, a Hub and Spoke telestroke network was established and has expanded to include 21 spoke hospitals.   Our participation and ability to recruit study patients in large national clinical research trials in stroke is well established.
